Organized Labour Seeks Abiodun's Attention To Prevent Strike Over Unpaid Deductions

Organized labour in Ogun State has demanded for immediate attention of Governor Dapo Abiodun to address the various demands of workers including their alleged unpaid allowances  and unremitted deductions to prevent imminent strike in the State Civil Service.   

Chairman of the State Council of Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade-Emnanuel Bankole and that of Trade Union Congress TUC, Comrade Akeem Lasisi and their Joint Negotiating Council counterpart, Comrade Isa Olude made the call in a jointly signed open letter to the governor, dated 7th of June, 2022 which was made available to newsmen in Abeokuta 

The workers according to the labour leaders, are restive and becoming more agitated over their unpaid allowances and unremitted deductions to appropriate quarters

Leadership of labour in the state insisted that government should re-open  negotiation with them on how payment of the various deductions would be made to the affected workers 

They however warned that industrial harmony would not be guaranteed, if government failed to ensure immediate payment of the deductions from salaries of workers in the state 

 

The letter reads further  in part: 

".i Immediate remittance of 21 months of their voluntary savings. This is deducted from salary at source as wished by the aggrieved individual workers with the requests that same be remitted to their micro socioeconomic entities such as Cooperative Societies, etc. that are serving the safety nets for emergency financial credits. Majority of them have been in limbo since these their voluntary savings remain unremitted.

ii. The 8 years of unpaid Statutory Leave Allowances. (The current administration alone owes 4years);

iii. The deliberate breach of agreement in the implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme (Ogun State Pension Law, [2006] amended in 2013). Deductions ONLY from the State Civil/Public Servants numbering 11 years remain unremitted neither to their preferred Pension Fund Administrators nor to their Pension Fund Custodians.

"Needless to add that other burning issues that are better discussed with the State Government are equally fuelling the growing apprehension amongst the State Government employees, Your Excellency."

"To nip the brewing agitation in its bud therefore, Your Excellency, is not only a necessity but also a deserving attention we all wished for in our collective efforts to advancing the fortunes of our dear State. We strongly call for an urgent dialogue with the State Government as soon as possible so as to find lasting solutions to the imminent labour unrest, Sir."
