Nollyhood Star: Odunlade Adekola Now Ogun Health Insurance Scheme's Ambassador






Yoruba Nollywood actor, Odunlade Adekola has been unveiled by the Ogun State Government as the Brand Ambassador of its Health Insurance Scheme

The unveiling is part of  intensified effort by the government on the promotion of Universal Health Coverage (UHC)

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker,speaking at the event in Abeokuta, said the move was a follow-up to the formal launch of the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF) and Health Insurance for the informal sector on February 6, 2022.

Coker, who signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on behalf of the State government with the Brand Ambassador, said the health insurance scheme has multiple structures in one basket, such as the BHPF, which affords vulnerable, including children below age five and senior citizens above 65 years free access to healthcare, noting that 50,000 people had registered on the scheme.

She pointed out that health insurance for the informal sector involves the payment of N1,000 every month to secure healthcare services that would cover common illnesses at no cost.

The Commissioner explained the choice of multi-talented Adekola as the Brand Ambassador for the Ogun State Health Insurance was informed by his fame, brilliance and impact in the movie industry, adding that he would influence the promotion in engaging the public in the insurance process.

"Our multi-talented Brand Ambassador, Odunlade Adekola is a familiar face to many people given his brilliance and fame. I am confident that he would contribute effectively to the State government’s effort to engage the public in the health insurance process", Coker said.

In his acceptance speech, Adekola expressed delight in the decision of the Ogun State Government to have chosen him for the task of being a Brand Ambassador, affirming that the provision of efficient healthcare for the people is essential.

"It is a great privilege to be made the Ogun Health Insurance Brand Ambassador. I am using this opportunity to accept the offer. I will work hand-in-hand with the State health insurance agency in its quest to give the people the best healthcare delivery", he assured.

In his remark, the Executive Secretary, Ogun State Health Insurance Agency (OGSHIA), Dr. Afolabi Dosumu, appreciated the prompt response of the Brand Ambassador to support the government in promoting its affordable healthcare programme.
