LAUTECH Dares ASUU's Strike, Resumes Thursday, 26th of May

The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso has dared the ongoing nation wide strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in public universities, directing its  members of staff and students to resume on Thursday, May 26, 2022.

Registrar of the university, Kayode Ogunleye who announced the resumption date in a statement made available to newsmen, says the resumption is for the continuation of the academic activities for the first semester of the 2021/2022 Academic Session.

The directive was coming after the Students Union Government (SUG) of the Institution had demanded for the withdrawal of union from the strike just like some other state universities in Nigeria.

The statement reads in parts: “Upon the directive of the Visitor to the university, the management hereby informs all members of staff and students that the university will continue its academic activities for the first semester of the 2021/2022 academic session on Thursday, May 26, 2022.

“The amended academic calendar for the semester will soon be made available.

“Members of staff and students are hereby enjoined to abide by this directive.

“On behalf of the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. M. O. Liasu, I welcome all students back to the campus and wish them a crisis-free semester.”

It will be recalled that the  Ibadan Zone of ASUU  in Ogbomoso had on Wednesday insisted that LAUTECH remained steadfast and would not pull out of the Industrial action declared by the national leadership of the academic union.

The union expressed the belief of   LAUTECH ASUU in the long-term benefit of repositioning public universities and not driven by primordial sentiments being spread  in some quarters.

Co-ordinator of ASUU in the zone, Prof. Oyebamiji Oyegoke at  a news  conference, attributed the current Infrastructural development being enjoyed  in LAUTECH as a result of Intervention of TETFUND  to ASUU’s struggle

He added that the Intervention of TETFUND made the institution  to have a semblance of a university.
