Management of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta has called for upward review of its carrying capacity, to enable the institution admit more students for both the National Diploma ND and Higher National Diploma HND programmes
Acting Rector of the polytechnic, Dr.Adeoye Odedeji made the call to the regulatory body, National Board for Technical Education NBTE over the weekend in Abeokuta ,during the first quarter appraisal of the Institution's 2022 budget performance by the State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Science and Technology
He express concern over the reduction in the number of students for each of the academic programmes in the Institution, following the implementation of the National Board for Technical Education NBTE and Joint Admission and Matriculation Board JAMB directive on carrying capacity
"There has been reduction in the number of students for each programme in the Institution.This is as a consequence of the implementation of NBTE carrying capacity by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board JAMB .The polytechnic has done everything possible in her capacity to increase the carrying capacity with little success ,"he decried
The acting Rector revealed that the Institution was only able to generate N513.3million between January and March representing 17.7% of the N2.88billion projected for the period out of the N3.13billion targeted for the 2022 fiscal year while nothing was expended out of the N996.89million voted for capital project during the period under review
"MAPOLY is facing the challenge of paucity of fund due to low number of students admitted in each of our programmes and non availability of subvention, making it difficult to embark on capital projects now. More over , the Institution is also owing a lot of debts in term of unremitted deductions", Odedeji stated further
He however said salaries of workers had been paid up to date while adding that "all hands are the desk to ensure that all programmes are accredited and re-acreditted"
"In the light of this, more programmes (17) are awaiting resource Inspection,some full acreditation and others reaccredited by the National Board for Technical Education NBTE. Infact, effort are being put in place in preparation for the accreditation excercise", the acting Rector assured
