The maiden Ogun SWAN/Opulent Media Cup, a 5-Aside football tournament being organized by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria in Ogun State will kick off this Friday at the Fun-turf in the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Kuto Abeokuta, with a match between
the State Broadcasting Corporation OGBC and Federated Chapel
State Secretary of SWAN, Comrade Michael Azeez Ogunsiji who released the fixtures at a formal draw for the competition held on Tuesday at the Opulent Hub event centre in Abeokuta, said the match would take place at 10am while Sweet 107.1Fm, Abeokuta clash with Radio/Paramount Abeokuta 94.5Fm later on Friday by 11am
Other matches slated for the same day, include Rockcity 101.9Fm taking on Family 88.5Fm, Abeokuta at 12noon while the last match for the day holds by 2pm between Correspondents Chapel team and Smash 88.1Fm Abeokuta side
On Saturday 26th of March, Super FM, Ijebu-Ode clash with Ogun State Television OGTV Abeokuta by 10am, Splash 106.7Fm Abeokuta side take on Consolidated Chapel team by 11am, Roots 97.1FM trade tackles with Nigeria Television Authority NTA Abeokuta by 12noon while Ogun State branch of Freelance Broadcasters Association of Nigeria FIBAN battle with the State Information and Strategy side by 2pm
State Chairman of SWAN AlhajiAkeem Akintunde was full of praises for the management of the media organizations participating in the competition while appreciating the support of Opulent Hub for partnering with the association to move sports forward in the state
Chief Executive of Opulent Hub, Chief Ayodeji Daramola sponsored of the tourney , said the hub has event centre for training and seminars, roof top has a swimming pool and bar , the multi events centre also has eatries amongst others facilities for Fun-Seekers in the Ogun State capital
The sponsor said he decided to support the 5 Aside competition to celebrate practitioners in the media Industry, especially Sports Writers in the state
Daramola who lauded the personality of Ogun SWAN Chairman, added that Opulent Hub was working closely with the association to open new business opportunities for the outfit
Daramola promised to make the tourney an annual event , describing Sports Writers as vibrant people
"Let us make friends through the competition and enjoy ourselves "
SWAN Secretary Comrade Ogunsiji said that the five aside kicks off on Friday with four matches and four matches on Saturday
The tournament is being organized to celebrate the sponsor who is celebrating his birthday and to use the competition to promote unity among media organizations
He added that there would be cash prizes and individual awards and trophies for winners on final day of the competition Thursday next week, 31st of March, 2022
Chief Executive of Penpushing Media , Comrade Dimeji Kayode Adedeji promised to support the Championship with donation of N10,000 to most valuable player
Former Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Wole Sokumbi lauded the SWAN for the initiative and the sponsor for supporting the Five Aside tourney
