Ogun Govt. Clamp Down On Over 32 Unapproved Builders

No fewer than 32 buildings have been sealed off by the Ogun State Government in Isheri, Ifo Local Government Area of the State for violating various building regulations.

The State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Town Planner  Olatunji Odunlami who made this known to newsmen  in Abeokuta, said that  most of the buildings were either without planning permit or built beyond approval.

According to Odunlami, obtaining a planning permit before commencing construction is not negotiable, as the present administration was determined to ensure that the State is safe, orderly, livable, and business-friendly.

“No building is allowed to spring up in Ogun State without obtaining planning permission and comply with the State building laws”, he said.

He urged all property owners, developers and other stakeholders in the built sector to ensure that they obtain a building permit and produce it when demanded by officials of the Ministry and its agencies, adding that non-availability of the permit would lead to sealing of the property, while the owner would be made to face the law.

The Commissioner also warned property owners and all concerned to desist from breaking the government seals, warning that placement of seals on buildings, be it residential or commercial means the owner must have contravened the law after necessary notices had been served.

In his remark, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Tunde Olugbewesa advised property owners to cooperate with the government in its aim of achieving a safe and secure environment
