Ogun NUT Asks Abiodun To Give Priority To Funding Of Education Sector, Seeks Repackaging of Teachers' Welfare




Nigeria Union of Teachers NUT has asked Governor Dapo Abiodun's administration to give priority to the funding of education sector, by investing  more in the repackaging of Teachers'Welfare in Ogun State in line with economic realities in the country

The State wing of NUT also offered special prayer session on Friday at its Secretariat in Abeokuta, to seek  the divine intervention of God for Presidential assent to the  bill on teachers salary structure being considered by the National Assembly, to enable teachers in the country enjoy fringe benefits inherit in it




State Chairman of the union, Comrade Abiodun Akinola addressing members at the 2022 special prayers session, stressed the need to appeal to the conscience of the State Government for it to honour agreement reached with workers bothering on their welfare

"Nigeria Union of Teachers NUT being an understanding union knows that the economy of the nation is currently in shambles as Naira purchasing power is nothing to write home about. Hence, the need to appeal to the conscience of the State Leadership to prioritize fund allocation, invest more in people (workers inclusive) repackage Teachers'Welfare and honour every agreement reached with the workers as we believe there is always another time in life ", he stated

Akinola assured teachers in the state of the union's leadership committment to championing the welfare of teachers without being confrontational with government, recalling how past struggle of the present leadership of NUT had yielded appreciable results  

"Since unionism is now  knowledge driven, we are making frantic effort to salvage the situation and save all from the quagmire", he added

The union also tasked the governor to do more in area of security, particularly in schools,  to avoid closure of schools in local communities which is capable of increasing the number of out of school children in the state 

Akinola urged teachers to move with trend to Improve on their teaching skills by taking advantage of different ongoing online trainings  opportunities being provided by the union

The State NUT Chairman however charged teachers across the branches in the State's 20 Local Governments to be actively involved in deciding who governs in 2023. 


"If you have not been voting before, now is the time to create interest, our destinies are actually in our hands, if you have not registered, now is the time to do so", he charged

The union reminded teachers to always observed non- pharmaceutical protocol of COVID-19 and avail themselves of opportunity available to be vaccinated against the virus

Imam of Ansar-ud- Deen Central Mosque, Quarry Road, Abeokuta, Alhaji Sulaiman Ogunbona led the Muslims prayers while Pastor Samson Kazeem from the Redeem Christian Church of God RCCC led the Christians sessions, d where teachers were admonished  to be alive to their responsibilities as role models in the society and be commited to the profession as a calling by God  

Prayers were offered by the clerics for the continous protection of teachers against all forms of spiritual and physical attack in the course of their duties, full payment of teachers' perculiar allowances, implementation of promotion, release of global deductions by government as well as successful career in public service
