Ogun State Government has insisted on signing of undertakings by pupils alongside with their parents or guardians, as part of measures put in place to tackle indiscipline and misconduct amongst students in its schools, ahead of resumption for second term of 2021/2022 session, Monday, next week
The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu who gave condition during a press conference in Abeokuta on Tuesday, also threatened to sanction private schools who admit any of its students expelled for unruly conduct
According to him, government has been engaging relevant stakeholders such as the principals, teachers union, parents association, security agencies and so on, in order to restore sanity back to the schools.
Arigbabu pointed out that the school is a microcosm of the society, hence, the acts of indiscipline needs to be tackled head on by all concerns persons to resuscitate and enforce standard in schools to what it used to be.
He added that undertaking forms are already available in all the schools and on the ministry website before any student would be allowed to resume for the new term.
“The undertaking form is expected to be signed by a parents and registered guardian of the student, we will not allow just anybody to come to the school and pose as a parent of any learners, the undertaking form is to make sure that students stay in line with the laid down rules of government, hence, any students found wanting will be make to face the punishment of their behavior”, Arigbabu said.
The commissioner however revealed that expelling a student would be the last measures resorted to after a student would have been given a fair and series of warning, saying that any student expelled would not be accepted into any other schools including private schools in the state
He further explained that this and some of the plans such as resuscitation of extra-curricular activities to engage the learners, curriculum evaluation, encouraging reward system to excellent students amongst would in no small measures helped to reduce this menace.
Meanwhile the Commissioner has charged workers in the ministry to work with determination and be focused driven in order to add value to the sector.
Arigbabu gave this charge during the prayer meeting to usher in the first working day of the year held at the ministry parking, appreciated God on behalf of the management and staff for keeping them in perfect peace throughout the past year, he prophesied that the new year will be better
than last year.
Arigbabu charged workers to continue to co-operate with the management and government by contributing their quota to overcome the rising challenges in the education sector.
“I want to charge you to continue to support the government by playing your individuals roles, you are the driving force of this administration and I want to enjoin you to continue to add value through your hard work, determination and creativity. I want to assure you that we will continue to provide you with conducive environment that will make your work life easier”, the commissioner said.
He posited that workers are the driving force of any successful administration, he therefore admonished them to not be discouraged in discharging their duties to best optimal, promising that management to continue provide the needed facilities to make work easier for them.
In their messages, in the christian and muslim ways respectively, the Director, Quality Assurance and Teachers Evaluation, Mr. Martins Akinsolu and the Imam, Governor,s office mosque, Alhaji Abdul-azeez Adebayo, said that giving thanks to God for His blessings would continue to yield more goodness.
They charged workers to always remember God in all that they do, change the patterns of doing things that doesn’t yield results in the past and also urged them to continue to pray for the leaders to do better
