Old Students' Association Lauds Ogun Govt's Proactive Measures Against Cultism, Others



Abeokuta Girls Grammar School (AGGS), Old Students’ Association has lauded
 Ogun State Government for being proactive in tackling issues on cultism, hooliganism, truancy and other violent behaviours, recently displayed by some students of secondary school in the State.

 The  association gave commendation during its  courtesy visit  to the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

 The President of the Association, Yeye Adetola Hassan said the visit was necessitated by the trending video of some students in the school with unruly behaviour, stated that the group appreciates the unrelenting efforts of Prince Dapo Abiodun led-administration in the State, towards returning sanity into the school.

Hassan noted that the government should do more by making the entry into the school more competitive, assuring that the Association is ready to further promote and improve the standard of education in the State.

 "Government decisions is in the interest of the people, and as old students, we are ready to support the present administration, to restore discipline in schools and further promote the standard of education", Hassan assured.

Also speaking, an old student of the school, Iyalode Alaba Lawson stated that parents should be allowed to take responsibilities on their children, saying, "if you educate a child on moral values and etiquette, what you get is higher educational standard".

Responding, Prof. Arigbabu pointed out that the State government is doing a lot to revitalise the education sector across the State, noting that whatever problem people observe in schools would be tackled headlong.

  Prof. Arigbabu who highlighted the steps taken to address indiscipline in schools to include, introduction of school-based management committee, enforcement of regular attendance of 70 percent as prerequisite for the registration of learners for West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), employment of two security guards and reintroduction of sporting activities, among others.

 "We've directed principals to constitute Parents’ Club in schools, that can come together and talk about lingering issues that are peculiar to their schools and come up with solution. I appreciate the Old Students’ Association of Abeokuta Girls Grammar School for being passionate about the school. I want our people to understand that government cannot do it alone, we should join hands to lift the banner of education higher", he submitted.


Contributing, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary and Secondary Education, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo said the recent happenings among the students in the State shows a lot of negligence from the parents, promising that government would not rest on its oars until things are corrected and brought back to normal.
