Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) is proposing sum of N1.16billion for construction of 80 classrooms , rehabilitation of 60 existing classrooms and provision of 20 toilet facilities, to create a conducive learning environment in public primary schools in the state
The Executive Secretary of the Board, Mr. Lekan Kuye, who made this known on Thursday while defending the 2022 budget proposal of the Board before the State House of Assembly in Abeokuta, also explained that N678million would be used for the construction of 80 classrooms, another N305.1milion for rehabilitation of 60classrooms and N79.1million for provision of toilet facilities in some of the schools
He assured that SUBEB would continue to prioritize the provision of qualitative education to all pupils towards acquiring appropriate levels of literacy, numeracy, communication and manipulative skills, with emphasis on information and communication technology as well as infrastructural development
Kuye added that N425.1milion would be expended on construction of 30 electronic library projects while N400million would be expended on provision of 118 boreholes in public primary schools in the state
Also, the Chairman, State Teaching Service Commission, Evang. Joshua Ifede, defended a total budget of N22.92bn , which included N140.9m for capital expenditure, N22.78bn for recurrent expenditure , while N3.18m was expected to be generated as revenue into government's coffers in the next fiscal year.
Ifede noted that the objective of the 2021 budget was to maximize the quality level of teaching through intellectual professionalism, thereby providing equitable, qualitative and affordable educational opportunities for all, in addition to improved capacity development for teachning and non-teaching members of staff for effective service delivery.
