Ogun Govt Seeks State Assembly's Support For UNFPA's Projects In Education, Health, Others



Ogun State Government has met with State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriations to seek Legislature's consent, towards implementing the State Roadmap for harnessing demographic dividend prepared by the State government in conjunction with United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

The State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr. Olaolu Olabimtan who led  a high powered members delegate to the house ,said it had become imperative to get the legislative assistance on the roadmap which according to him, is  a necessary tool to improving the health, wellbeing, as well as give economic empowerment to the people of the State.

Olabimtan described the roadmap as the guide and pathway to strategically harnessing demographic dividend in the state through five thematic pillars which include health and wellbeing, education and skill development, economic empowerment, good governance and migration.

The Commissioner urged the committee on Finance and Appropriations to circulates the document as wide as possible particular to all relevant House Committees since the roadmap cut across many Ministries, Departments and Agencies for a seamless implementation process.

Also speaking , the consultant from Health Policy Training and Research Programme, University of Ibadan, Mr. Noah Olasehinde revealed that in thirty years’ time the population of the State will double, that is why it is necessary to plan ahead for the future.

The Chairman of the Committee Olakunle Sobunkola receiving the presentation of the document, assured that the legislature would look into the roadmap, review and come up with necessary laws to enhance its implementation.
