Ogun Clears Shanties Around JUNE 12 Cultural Centre, Warns Traders

Ogun State Government has cleared shanties around the June 12 Cultural Centre in Kuto, Abeokuta,so as to  create a conducive ambience for its iconic monuments

Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Mr. Ola Oresanya who led a team to the site of the exercise in the area, said the move would help the State to preserve the originality of its monuments, as well as attract visitors.

“The situation is so alarming at June 12 Cultural Centre that aside from the shanties and containers, its frontage has been converted to illegal market and unauthorised bus stop which is not ideal for a state capital. After the exercise, the place will be properly lawned and decorated to befit the status of an iconic monument’’, Oresanya said.

He said that the State government had issued several warnings to traders around the area to move to Kuto main market, adding that their resistance has led to the clearing of shanties and containers, to recover the space.

The Special Adviser enjoined other traders who have erected shanties and placed containers in and around other State monuments and iconic places to remove them and move to traditional and government-recognised markets.
