Ogun State Assembly will be reshuffling its standing committees, when the house resumes plenary on 20th of January, 2022
Speaker of the house, Right Honourable Olakunle Oluomo dropped the hint under motion for adjournment on Thursday, during the lawmakers' last session for the outgoing 2021, Inside hallow chamber of the assembly's complex, Oke-mosan Abeokuta
Oluomo added that the selection committee of the house would meet and decide on dissolution of members of the the existing standing committees and reconstitute the committees for more effective legislative service to the people in 2022
Meanwhile the house passed two bills including the one for the establishment of Ogun State Board of Internal Revenue to grant the agency autonomy aimed at improving revenue generation of the state and another for the amendment of the Local Governments Law
The house passed the State Board of Internal Revenue Bill, after adoption of a report presented on it by the Finance and Appropriation Committee Chairman, Hon.Olakunle Sobukanla seconded by his vice, Hon. Ganiyu Oyedeji supported by voice votes, before clause by clause consideration of the report
Majority Leader of the house, Hon. Yusuff Sheriff then moved motion for the third reading of the bill
The lawmakers had during the debate on the bill titled HB. No. 077/ OG/2021- Ogun State Board of Internal Revenue Law, 2021 on the floor of the State House of Assembly, expressed confidence that the law would aid efficiency, promote accountability and transparency as well as boost revenue drive in the State.
The bill seeks for “a law to provide for the Establishment of the Ogun State Board of Internal Revenue, Service and Administration; and collection of revenue due to the Government of the State and for matters related”, according the lawmakers who spoke during the debate on the second reading of the bill,
They noted that that it was high time the State Revenue Board became autonomous to further strengthen it's operations.
Speaker of the house then directed it's Clerk to send a clean copy of the bill to Governor Dapo Abiodun for his assent alongside, a bill for the Local Government Amendment Law 2020 passed during the plenary
