Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics ASUP has asked Governor Dapo Abiodun to urgently constitute members of Governing Council and appoint substantive Rector for the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic MAPOLY in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, to avoid fresh crisis in the Institution
Chairman of ASUP branch in the Polytechnic, Comrade Babatunde Osifalujo who made the call in a statement made available to newsmen in Abeokuta on Tuesday, also sought quick Intervention of the governor in ensuring payment of November and December salaries of workers to enable them celebrate the festive period
The union in the statement, accused Abiodun of delaying the constitution of the council, appointing substantive Rector, domesticate New Polytechnic Act, contrary to the agreement reached with State Government last year
Other demands listed by the union include immediate payment of over three sessions honorarium and subsequent stoppage to the accumulation of Part Time claims
ASUP is also worried over the delay in staff promotion and appointments as well as implementation of the new minimum wage in the institution and the implementation of the union's resolution matters involving pensions,entitlement and plight of MAPOLY Staff retirees and non-remittance of Union outstanding cheque-off dues, more importantly when the Union had kept to its own side of the bargain.
"While we thought of giving time out to His Excellency on those matters, two years and six months is more than enough for any government to have resolved such fundamental issues. We therefore urge the governor to attend to these issue without further delay", the union urged
ASUP insisted that only Implementation of these demands would ensure Industrial harmony in the Institution, calling on the governor to reciprocate the gesture of the union by acting now on the agreement reached with it
