Ogun Local Council's Boss Cautions Residents Against Open Defecation


Residents of Yewa North Local Government Area in Ogun State have been cautioned against open defecation and dumping of refuse into drainages, to prevent possible outbreak of diseases, flooding and other devastating effects to the environment and their health

The  Local Councils' Chairman, Hon.Gabriel Ogunyomi who issued the warning  while speaking with newsmen in Ayetoro, said the such prevention, would ensure a healthy environment and guide against unnecessary loss of lives.

Ogunyomi who decried people’s unwholesome attitudes of dumping refuse in drainages, which he said had contributed largely to environmental hazards, such as flooding and spread of contagious diseases, imploring them to always dispose their waste appropriately.  

Also speaking in a separate interview, the Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation Officer-in-charge of Oja-Odan, Mrs. Akorede Makinde, urged food vendors to maintain proper hygiene while preparing food

She added that, people should ensure healthy environment by keeping their surroundings clean at all time.

On her part, the Iyaloja of Yewaland, Alhaja Yemisi Abass, lauded the Local Government authority for the provision of public toilets in various markets and making compactors available during the weekly sanitation exercise, noting that it had aided proper waste disposal.

Contributing, her counterpart in Oja-Odan, Alhaja Birikisu Dosumu appealed to the government for more provisions of essential facilities in markets across the area, assuring of prompt payment of taxes and other dues.
