Governor Dapo Abiodun has re-assured that his administration would continue to develop the education sector and take advantage of its immense potentials for the advancement of Ogun State, especially in the areas of human capital development and re-orientation of the people.
Abiodun declaring open the 16th Annual Retreat/70th Business Meeting of the Association of Registrars of Nigeria Universities ARNU at the Federal University of Agriculture FUNAAB Abeokuta, stressed that the role of education in any human and national development efforts cannot be over emphasised
Represented by Deputy Governor ,Engr.(Mrs) Noimot Salako-Oyedele, he says no nation can rise above the quality of its educational system.
He added that the greatness of every society hinge on the nature and quality of its educational system.
Abiodun re-emphasised that Ogun State had continued to be in the forefront of education system in the country, saying the history of Nigeria as a nation, would not be completed without making reference to the notable sons and daughters of the State.
While welcoming participants to the meeting, he revealed that the association was established with the aim to strengthen collaboration among all Registrars, provide a platform for continuous and robust engagements for unified administrative system of the universities, as an integral part of tertiary education sub-sector
He commended ARNU for its focus on the noble ideas and objectives without any deviation over the years of its existence in the Nigeria's university system.
Reminding, that they hold a key position in the management of universities, Abiodun charged them to execute their functions in line with the provision of the enabling Act with extant rules and regulations, upholding the virtues of their noble profession.
In his welcome address, the Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture (FUNAAB), Prof. Felix Salako, said the two-day retreat would provide unique opportunity for all stakeholders in the higher education sector, to uphold the standard of professionalism that was expected of them, adding that the retreat would also create an opportunity for mentorship.
Also speaking, the Chairman, ARNU, Dr. Abubakar Mamuda, said the annual event brings all registrars of Nigerians Universities together to brainstorm on topical issues that affect the University system in Nigeria and the educational system in general, noting that registrars needs to understand changes and develop adaptations that would make Nigerian universities competitive in the global race.
In a related development, Engr. Salako-Oyedele, has congratulated the 2021 graduating students of Mercyland International School, Ibara, Abeokuta, saying the school is where life foundation is made and first step to take future career.
She advised the graduating students to make use of the opportunities and learn from the challenges.
