NYG:Delta Sports Comm.Boss Optimistic Of Surpassing 60Gold Target




The Executive Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission Chief Tonobok Okowa is optimistic of Team Delta  surpassing its 60gold medals target set for the contingent at the ongoing Sixth National Youth Games in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital

Chief Okowa in a statement on Monday,  commended Team Delta Athletes for their sumptuous performance at the games,  saying they have surpassed the past record of forty one gold medals haven garnered fifty seven gold medals. 

Okowa however urged the athletes not to rest on their oars as the target was just three gold medals away.

 He appreciated other states especially Team Lagos for pushing Team Delta to the heights asserting that Delta State will continue to work harder to remain the leaders in Nigerian sports sector. 

Meanwhile Team Delta maintained it's dominance in athletics after claiming five gold medals

Taye Ayemiro claimed gold in the female one hundred meters after clocking 12.18 seconds to beat Stella Oyebode of Kwara State who returned a time of 12.35 seconds with Laofeekat Adenikemi Sulaimon of Oyo State placed third after clocking 12.57seconds to pick bronze.

 In the boys event Delta born Awonusi Wilfred Olafapo of Bayelsa State claimed gold after clocking 11.23 seconds to beat Oyovwiyoma Joachim of Delta who also clocked 11.23 seconds following a photo finish while Habib Mohammed of Kaduna finished third after clocking 11.26 seconds.

Team Delta also claimed gold in the Male and Female Shot Put events while Onyia Jeffrey Miracle contributed to Team Delta's gold rush after leaping to 6.67 meters in the Male Long Jump Event to beat Akwugbu Miracle of Akwa Ibom who leaped to 6.39 meters and LongLife Blessed of Edo State who leaped 6.35 meters to second and third place.

 Onyia Jeffrey Miracle in an interview thanked God for making it possible for him to take part in the games.

 He commended Chief Tonobok Okowa and the Coaches for their hard work towards building them into champions. 

Okowa promised to continue working harder as he hopes to represent Nigeria in the future.
