No fewer than 143 indigenes of Owu-Abeokuta Kingdom in Information and Communication Technology ICT, Driving and women in various trades have been empowered by the Owu Empowerment Foundation, to boost the economic activities of the people
Co-ordinator General of the foundation,Chief Ogo-Oluwa Bankole at a formal Inauguration of the foundation and presentation of certificates to trainees on Friday, Inside the Olowu's Palace in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, gave the breakdown of the beneficiaries to include 22 individuals who acquired skills in ICT, 28 trained drivers issued with license and 93 women in various businesses and trades
According to the Owu-Abeokuta High Chief, "the vision of the foundation is to promote, maintain and sustain the position of Owu Kingdom as a leading and foremost progressive among the Yoruba Nation in general and inhabitants of Abeokuta and Districts in particular by guarantying High quality Manpower Development as well as competitive High Skill Management Development"
He explained that the shortlisted beneficiaries had been carefully selected after proper documentation of their profile from various Owu-Abeokuta communities, Obas, Chiefs , Baales and Youth amongst others,as true indigenes of Owu-Abeokuta
Bankole described the foundation as first of its kind fully funded by the Owus both at home and diaspora including Nigeria's former president and Balogun of Owu, Olusegun Obasanjo and Immediate past governor of the state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun representing Ogun Central at the National Assembly
The foremost industrialists and owner of Premier Paints, assured that the foundation would continue to mobilize resources for upliftment of Owu Communities and indigenes
He added that other objectives of the foundation include, identifying the potentials for the future growth of Owu Communities, complimenting the efforts of government and other agencies in ensuring human capital development of Owu indigenes as well as mentoring and empowerment of the Owus to gain employment, become self reliance and agent of positive change
High point of the event was presentation of the certificates to trainees and cash to empower beneficiaries by the chairman of the foundation's board of trustees, Chief (Dr.) Banji Oyegbami ,the Omotadese of Owu-Abeokuta Kingdom
