NEMA Begins Distribution Of Relief Materials To Flood Victims In South-West

 

Nigeria Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has flagged-off the distribution of relief materials to the year 2020 victims of flood disaster in South West zone of the country, just as it assured those displaced in the herders/farmers clashes particularly in the Yewa axis of Ogun State of getting the two-bed room flat, as promised to each of the families

 

Director-General of the agency, Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed, who gave  the assurance on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to Governor Dapo Abiodun at his Oke- Mosan Office in Abeokuta ,disclosed that NEMA was in the State to flag-off the pilot phase of the Southwest Agriculture Intervention Programme for the year 2020 flood victims in the State

He said that the Intervention would also be extended to other flood affected zones in the country.

Alhaji Ahmed added that the relief-support such as the implementation of the construction of 500-units housing of 2-bedroom flats, supply of relief materials to victims of Herdsmen invasion in Yewa zone, as well as fire disaster victims in Odogbolu and many others, would be worked on.

Governor Abiodun in his response, assured NEMA and other supporting agencies of government’s continued collaboration, promising judicious distribution of the relief materials and other palliatives to affected victims in the State.        

Abiodun added that his administration was committed to bringing succor and long-lasting relief to victims of disasters.

The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi stated that the importance of the relief-agency in the management of disaster in the country could not be over-emphasised, maintaining that the government would provide more viable technical and logistic support to the agency.

His words,“The role of NEMA in disaster management in our country is quite huge, and as a State government, we are determined to ensure that the activities of the Agency have a direct impact on the affected victims".

”We hereby use this avenue to request for more intervention from the Agency, while we will ensure that the distribution of the palliatives and other relief materials to the State will not be frustrated by anyone”, he emphasised.

Abiodun appreciated the NEMA Director-General and his team for the visit, promising that provision of palliatives to victims, among other requests would be further enhanced for speedy response to disaster management.

      

Other government functionaries at the meeting include, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Shuaib Salisu, Head of Service, Alhaja Selimot Ottun, Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Barr. Femi Ogunbanwo, his counterpart in the Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Afolabi Afuape, Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture, Dr. Angel Adelaja, among others.
