Lecturers in the public universities in Nigeria have threaten to resume their strike action, if the Federal Government fails to address the 2009 agreement reached at the end of this month
President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU, Prof.Victor Emmanuel at the end of the union's meeting in Ilorin,the Kwara State Capital, said that the government had agreed last May, 2021 to implement the agreement but nothing had been implemented till now in August
"We just want to put this nation on alert that if by the end of this August, the government does not revert to us on how this agreement will be implemented and signed , the nation should hold government responsible for what ever that happens ", he said
The union among others demands, is asking for N30billion earned allowances and removal of its members from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System IPPIS and suggested for replacement with University Transparency and Accountability Solution UTAS, as well as adequate funding of public universities in the country
Edu-Biznews recalled that ASUU suspended its strike action last 23rd of December, 2020 after more than six months of distruption of the public university system
