Ogun State House of Assembly will this Monday,12th of July begin its appraisal of the 2021 budget performance of Ministries, Departments and Agencies MDAs of government as well as the 20 Local Government Councils in the State
Edu-Biznews recalled that the house on December 29,2020 passed into law, the 2021 Appropriation Bill of N338.6billion including Capital expenditure of N171.898billion and recurrent expenditure of N146.529billion and N20.182billion for consolidated revenue projection
Education, Science and Technology Ministry and its agencies including the State Teaching Service Commission, State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB, State Library Board,Bureau of Tertiary Institutions, State Vocational and Technical Education Board and Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta,(MAPOLY) will kick-start the three weeks excercise which ends on the 2nd of August
Clerk of the Assembly/ Head of Legislative Services, Mr. ‘Deji Adeyemo who announced the commencement of the budget assessment in a statement on Sunday in Abeokuta, explained that the annual exercise which remained part of the oversight functions of the Legislative Arm of Government in promoting good governance, is in consonance with Sections 128 and 129 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as Amended).
The release added that the exercise, which is meant to ensure effective and efficient service delivery to the people, would commence from 10:00am daily
Adeyemo enjoined all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of Government as well as Local Government Councils to make available relevant documents and information to ensure the success of the exercise.
Meanwhile the State House of Assembly has summoned the management teams of Italy Ceramics Company Limited located along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and CCETC Suk Power Company Limited to explain the rationale behind the alleged inhumane treatments being melted on their employees, especially of the State origin, which have resulted in physical assault and injury on the workers.
The Speaker of the house, Right. Honourable Olakunle Oluomo issued the summon in response to a petition submitted by a member representing Ikenne State Constituency, Kunle Sobukanla during the last Thursday plenary at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, with a directive to the representatives of the two companies to appear before the Assembly’s Committee on Industry, Trade and Investments on Monday, 12th July, 2021 at the Assembly Complex by 10:00am.
Oluomo emphasised that though the State was committed to attracting investors but would not in any guise afford to habour such investors that would maltreat the people of the State.
Earlier, Sobukanla informed the Assembly that the Chinese-owned companies which were into the production of ceramics and electricity generation with hundreds of employees as supporting staff, had inflicted injuries on some of their employees.
The petition partly reads, "the company did not consider it necessary to provide medical attention for the injured employees, neither did they show any remorse for the injury inflicted on the workers. It is important to mention that it is not good enough for foreigners to be accomodated in Ogun State and Nigeria at large and such investors will not be able to reciprocate the kind gesture extended to them but instead, maltreating their host and employees inhumanly”.
In another development, the Assembly has adopted the interim report of its committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, calling on the Omala of Imala, Oba Moses Olabode to desist from hindering the developmental projects currently being undertaken by Olorunda Community.
The Assembly’s decision followed the presentation of the report of the Committee by the Chairman, Hon(Mrs.) Bolanle Ajayi, who thereafter moved the motion for its adoption, seconded by a member representing Ipokia/ Idiroko State Constituency and supported by the Whole House through a voice vote.
The Assembly also pointed out the need for the State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to step up measures towards setting the records straight on chieftaincy related issues in the affected communities.
The Committee tasked both parties to ensure the sustenance of peace in their respective domains pending the reconvening of another reconciliatory meeting.
