Ogun State House of Assembly has expressed concern over non-compliance of some of the Ministries Departments and Agencies of the State Government with global accounting standards in keeping the financial records of their transactions
The house charged Accounting officers and other officials in charge of financial records in the various Ministries, Department and Agencies to ensure total compliance to the principles of accountability and transparency, through proper recording of financial expenses and revenue accurable to their agencies for the holistic implementation and assessment of the State 2021 Appropriation Act.
Two of the standing Committees, Energy, Oil, Gas, Energy, Water Resources and Rural Development led by Hon.Abdul Oladunjoye and that of the Youth and Sports led by Hon.Olusola Adams gave the charge at the Assembly's complex in Oke-mosan, Abeokuta, during their separate appraisal of respective MDAs 2021 budget Implementation between January and June period
They pointed out that it was important for the financial officers to ensure proper classification of recurrent expenditures under appropriate economic code and item of expenditures as provided in the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS).
Consequently, they directed some agencies including State Water Corporation and Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency to re-appear with their political Heads for their budget assessment on Tuesday, 27th July, 2021.
In another development, Hon. Oladunjoye Committee on Energy, Oil, Gas, Energy, Water Resources and Rural Development examined the budget performance of the State Ministry of Rural Development as presented by the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Adekunle Oyesanmi, who represented the State Commissioner for Rural Development, Mr. Taiwo Oludotun.
Oludotun said that the Ministry was setting out more strategies towards ensuring improved distribution of power in the rural areas, encourage community participation in the design, development and implementation of water projects to enhance socio-economic development of rural communities across the State.
Giving analysis of the Ministry's activities in the period under review, the Commissioner listed various rural electrification projects carried out to include the provision of electrification with solar home system in Atapa, Etiri, Koto-Obo, Sunren Oke-nla, Health centres in Ijado and Lumafon both in Ogun West and East respectively.
This he noted in addition to a solar powered borehole at Elefun Community and two intervention motorized water scheme at Akaka community and Iperu Remo.
The lawmakers also considered the budget performance of the State Ministry of Youth and Sports, Gateway Stadia, Ilaro and Sagamu as well as Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu-Ode amongst others.
