Anti-Open Grazing:Ogun Assembly May Pass Bill This Thursday




Ogun State House of Assembly is strongly considering the passage of the much awaited anti-open grazing bill, when members reconvene for plenary this Thursday

Edu-Biznews recalled that Governors of the 17 Southern States of Nigeria on Monday during the forum second meeting in Lagos, unanimously agreed and fixed September 1,2021 deadline for the promulgation of the bill, to completely ban open grazing by animals in their respective states, as part of measures to end the frequent clashes between farmers and herders in the country

Speaker of the house, Right Honourable Olakunle Oluomo during the Tuesday plenary in Abeokuta, directed the Committee on Agriculture and Forestry, to ensure that its report on the bill titled" The Animal Grazing and Cattle Ranch Establishment Law of Ogun State" is presented for members' consideration and passage on Thursday

The bill being sponsored by Honourable Ganiyu Oyedeji, when eventually passed into law and assented to by Governor Dapo Abiodun, will regulate animal grazing and ensure establishment of Cattle Ranches in designated areas of the state 

Oluomo also asked the Committee working another bill seeking the establishment of the State Residents Registration Agency and Registration of Ogun State Residents, to speed up work on  presentation of its report to the house

The Speaker also directed the Committee on Finances and Appropriation Committee to be ready next week for the second reading of another long standing bill titled " Harmonized Revenue And Other Charges Law of Ogun State, which is seeking to harmonise revenue and other charges being collected by all revenue generating agencies in the state  

Ondo State House of Assembly had passed similar bill last week, to ban open grazing by animals in the state likewise other states including Benue
