The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has announced the suspension of its nationwide strike started over two-months ago
Edu-Biznews recalled that the union on April 6 joined its counter part workers in the State Houses of Assembly, to compel the various State Governments to implement the financial autonomy for the judiciary and legislative arms of government, as amended in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
Leaders of the union rose from their National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Wednesday evening, where they passed a resolution to suspend the Industrial action .
The union, in a communiqué jointly signed by its Deputy President, Emmanuel Abioye and General Secretary, I. M. Adetola after the meeting, asked the workers to resume work from next week ,Monday and directed its official to allow entry into all court premises nationwide forthwith.
The National Judicial Council (NJC) had earlier met with JUSUN leaders on Tuesday, during which the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Muhammad, pleaded with the striking court workers to put an end to the industrial action in the interest of the country and the suffering court users.
Following the Intervention of NJC and other stakeholders in the judiciary in the country, JUSUN’s NEC resolved to suspend the strike after considering a whole lot of issues
The union commended the CJN and all heads of courts “for their patience and understanding through out the period of the industrial action.”
JUSUN also appreciated the effort of NJC for making sure that the governor comply with judgement and agreement on the financial autonomy of the Judiciary arm of government
“Effort of the NJC in making sure that the governors obey the memorandum of action (MoA), judgments and agreement on the financial autonomy of the Judiciary.,”the union lauded
The JUSUN NEC however reiterated its position that no member of JUSUN should be victimised on the basis of strike action.
