The second tier Nigeria National League NNL side, Gateway United Football Club were merciless on Monday, thrashing a lowly rated Easywell FC by four/nil in a final of 2021 Ogun State Football Association Cup
Highly enterprising Micheal Okolo opened scoring for the Ogun State Government owned team from the penalty spot within just two minutes of the final match played at the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta, the state capital
Okolo completed his brace with a brilliant free-kick from 25yards in the 37th minute, before halftime
Gateway extended their lead within just two minutes of resumption of the second half of the one-sided encounter, when Iwundu Chidozie jumped very high, among opponents' defenders to nod in a corner while Haruna Salifu 's header off Sunkanmi Odusina's cross made it four, to put the game beyond the Remo Division Sports Council's side
To reach the final, Gateway managed to beat hard-fighting Ijebu United FC via 5-3penalties while Easywell created a major upset, after sending out Nigeria's second division side, FC Nilayo also through penalties shoot out
Both sides will represent the state at the forthcoming Aiteo FA Cup in Nigeria, the oldest and most glamorous Football competition in the country
Chief Coach, Hakeem Busari was full of praises for his side for winning the State FA Cup in a clinical fashion, attributing the victory to mental and physical fitness of players.
He expressed confidence that the players were fully prepared for the crucial league encounter against visiting local rivals and leaders of NNL Group B2 of Southern Conference, Remo Stars FC of Ikenne-Remo
Some of the players from the two teams in the final, however expressed their disappointment over non-presentation of medals to them, without any explanation from the State Football Association, the organizers of the competition.
