Ayeni Dumps Ekiti Utd,Replaces Ogunbote To Rescue Sunshine Stars In NPFL



The Chief Coach of Ekiti United Football Club, Ayodeji Ayeni has dumped his second tier Nigeria National League NNL side for Sunshine Stars of Akure in the elite Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL

Ayeni is on the rescue mission at the Akure Gunners whose Chief Coach Gbenga Ogunbote resigned last May 26, following series of poor performances by the team currently swimming in the relegation water in the country's top flight league



The coach who led Ekiti United  to its current third position on the 2021 Nigeria National League -NNL table, moved to Akure to finalise the new deal a day after helping the Ado-Ekiti based side recorded its first away league victory,beating Rovers fc of Calabar on Saturday by three/one 

Meanwhile, the management of Ekiti United has swiftly done the needful by appointing Samson Omiponle who assisted coach Ayeni as the acting coach 

Omiponle will be assisted by second assistant coach, Adeola Awe(Adex)

Media Officer of the club,Qozeem Oladapo in statement on Tuesday, said that the management of Ekiti United applauded the role played by coach Ayeni while in charge of the team and prayed he succeeds in his new task as Sunshine Stars head coach though it came as a positive surprise to the entire team.

In readiness for post-Ayeni era, Ekiti United Team Manager, Olushola Babatola prior to the Tuesday's training session, addressed the new coaching crew and the players at the Oluyemi Kayode stadium 

The new acting head coach, Samson Omiponle and his assistant, Adeola Awe who were officially unveiled by the Team Manager charged the players to keep up the good work that earned Ekiti United it's current impressive standing

They added that with determination and focus, the team would finish among the top two in the Southern Conference Group B1 of the NNL.

The players who hailed the new acting head coach and his assistant began their training on Tuesday (today) in high spirit with praise and worship.

Meanwhile, there are indications that some top teams in the Nigeria professional Football league including Sunshine Stars of Akure are eyeing at least 12 players of Ekiti United following their impressive performances in the ongoing NNL season.

Ekiti United fc has six matches left in the 2021 NNL season with four home and two away matches while their  next match is on Sunday against Vandrezzer fc from Lagos.
