NPFL:Coach Gbenga Ogunbote Resigns Over Sunshine Stars' Poor Performance

Coach Gbenga Ogunbote has resigned his appointment as handler of Sunshine Stars of Akure, following  the team's series of poor performances in the Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL

The Coach resigned  after another disappointing goaless draw with the visiting MFM of Lagos on Wednesday, which further worsened the woes of the Akure Gunners currently in the 18th position with just 21points in the week 23 of the Nigeria's top flight league, comprising of 20 teams

Ogunbote who tendered his resignation letter dated 26th of May,2021 to the office of the Chairman of the Ondo State Football Agency, explained that he could no longer continue with the team not motivated

The Coach added that his returned to the team was informed by the belief that the management of the club would continue where its stopped when the side recorded impressive performances, getting to the semi-finals of both CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup in two consecutive seasons of 2011 and 2012

"I took the job in an anticipation that we will continue where we stopped the last time I coached the team having better results, however on this occasion of my relationship with the team, the welfare of the team is well off the mark, such that it affects morales of players and collective motivation of the team, players are my tools with my inputs to get results, results are what makes a difference in being a successful coach which unfortunately it's not happening this time", Ogunbote lamented

The Coach forfeited his one month salary inlieu of the mandatory notice, while hoping that his outstanding salaries, sign on fees and bonuses would be paid for proper disengagement

He however expressed his appreciation to the club's management and officials for the support given during his stay as tactician of  the team, while wishing the club success in the prosecution of the remaining matches in the league
