NNL: Insurance Pipe Gateway United 2-1 in Benin

Ojo Tolulope's header ensured that homeside, Insurance avenged its two/nil defeat by Gateway United Football Club in the first round of the Nigeria National League NNL

Insurance struggled to edge the visiting Gateway United two/one in one of the matches signalling the commencement of the second stanza of the Nigeria's second tier league on Saturday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin-City

Haruna Salifu's had grabbed an equalizer for the visitors in 65th minute, after Bright Osas gave Insurance the lead within the stoppage time of the opening half

Both teams started brightly, trying to create early chances in the first 15 minutes of a pulsating affair but clear cut chances were hard to come by.

Good defending cum alertness of Araromi Ibukun expertly kept the hosts at bay after a surge of crosses and in-swingers in dangerous areas during the encounter.

The introduction of Odusina Olasunkanmi and Ebuka Okeke by Coach Hakeem Busari in replacement for Okolo Michael and Ikechukwu Julius made strong impact but couldn't prevent the Insurance boys from securing the needed win for the three maximum courtesy of Ojo  Tolulope's 76th minute header .

Reacting to the loss, Gateway United Acting General Manager, Niyi Soleye in a statement by the Media Officer of the club,Moses Ojewumi, frowned at the result, while charging the team to show more impetus.

His words"We can't afford to slip especially in a game of this nature. Therefore, I demand a massive improvement. Our defence can't afford to be leaking in such a manner.

"We must take our chances and complement that with a watertight defence. As for the technical crew, work on all the lapses identified in today's game", he added

Gateway United who have a bye next weekend (matchday 15) will next face Holy Arrows at MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta on the 15th May, 2021.
