Organized labour in Ogun State is lamenting and set to meet next week, over backlog of unpaid 15 months deductions from salaries of workers on payroll of the State Government
The workers are also accusing the government of non-payment of seven years leave allowances, since 2015 till date
Edu-Biznews on Tuesday gathered from reliable source close to the State Public Service Joint Negotiating Council, that the workers are demanding restoration of payment of gross salaries as agreed in the Memoranda of Understanding (MoU)reached with the State Government last 18th September,2020 which government failed to implement at the expiration of the first quarter of the year between January and March, 2021
They are also worried that the effort at streamlining Pension administration and the State Public Service Pension Law has been characterized with a lot of drama, calling for stoppage of the Contributory Pension deductions which the workers described as dysfunctional
The workers in their letter to Governor Dapo Abiodun and Head of Service, described the non-payment of the deductions from their salaries for the past 15months as unacceptable and gross violation of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Protection of Wages Convention 1949(Number 95) which Nigeria subscribes to
The State Joint Negotiating Council while appreciating the implementation of the new minimum wage since October, 2020,expressed concern over the government's silence on payment of nine months arrears of the minimum wage saying the wage was originally due for commencement in January,2020
They are asking government to review upward, its first quarter disbursement of N500million for payment of outstanding gratuities to retirees , insisting that the amount is grossly inadequate to make meaningful impact for Pensioners who retired from Local Government since November 2011 and their counter part in the State Government since February 2014
Edu-Biznews further gathered that the Organized Labour is asking the State Government to convey a meeting to evaluate the implementation of agreement on September 18,2020
It was further learnt that the labour will decide its next line of action after meeting at the end of this month
