The ongoing 20th National Sports Festival in Benin-City, the Edo State capital may come to an abrupt end this Thursday over shortage of fund
The Nigeria's biennial multi-sports event tagged "Edo 2020" which commenced last April 2, is originally scheduled to end next week, April 14
But the local organizing committee of the games after its emergency meeting on Wednesday explained that the Edo State Government had to take the hard decision , having exhausted its reserved fund for the national sports festival and yet to receive the needed additional fund promised by the Federal Government
Coordinator of Media and Publicity of the National Sports Festival, Ebomhiana Musa who confirmed the ugly development in a statement late Wednesday night, said "the Federal government had promised to make funds available for the sports festival before its commencement and it was the assurance that made the LOC go ahead with the sports fiesta".
"However 7 days into the games the Federal government is yet to fulfil the promise. made to the host state and as a result of this , the LOC plans to shut down the games by 12noon Thursday the 8th of April", the LOC concluded.
