Delta State has been declared as the next host of the National Sports Festival in 2022, after the state won the recently concluded Nigeria's biennial multi-sports event, in Benin-City, the Edo State capital
Minister of Youth and Sports Development ,Chief Sunday Dare announced this while declaring closed, the 20th edition of the Festival tagged Edo 2020 which ended in Benin on Wednesday.
The State beat other five states Ebonyi, Imo, Kaduna, Kano and Ogun, to secure the hosting right of the games in 2022.
His words,"Congratulations to Delta State for emerging the overall winner of the Games of the 2020 National sports Festival. I'm glad to note that the Federal Government received bids to host the 21st edition of the National sports Festival in 2022 from 6 states namely: Delta, Ebonyi, Imo, Kaduna, Kano and Ogun"
"Following the evaluation of the bids and the physical visitation to the prospective States, I hereby announce Delta State as the next host of the National sports Festival in 2022".
The minister represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, congratulated the state for emerging as the next host of the games
"I Congratulate the Government and people of Delta State for emerging the preferred State and wish them best of luck in the organisation of the 21st National sports Festival"
Delta State won the Edo2020 games with 158 gold, 116silver and 110bronze ahead of host Edo State who won 129gold, 104silver and 108bronze, Bayelsa in the third position with 56 gold,55silver and 58bronze , Rivers is placed fourth with 33gold,34silver and 61bronze while Lagos completed the top five states with 32gold, 40 silver and 54bronze
Oyo state came sixth with 31gold, 30silver and 42bronze, Akwa-Ibom is next in the seventh position with 20gold, 24silver and 44bronze, Ogun is on the eight spot with 16gold, 23silver and 39bronze, Kano is placed ninth with 11gold,22silver and 31bronze while Imo state finished in the top ten states with 10gold, 13silver and 26bronze
Sokoko with three bronze and Taraba with two bronze are at the bottom of the table in the 36th and 37th positions respectively
