Ogun Assembly Holds Public Hearing On Anti-Open Grazing, CDA Bills

 


Ogun State House of Assembly is set to hold its public hearing on an Anti-Open Grazing bill, this Wednesday, as part of the moves to find a lasting solution to the frequent clashes between farmers and herders in the state

Edu-Biznews recalled that the State   recenty witnessed bloody clashes between farmers and herders, particularly in the Yewa axis, where many farmlands and several houses in the villages and border towns were destroyed including lives while others escaped to the neigbouring Benin-Republic

Clerk of the house, Deji Adeyemo who announced the holding of the public hearing in a statement made available to Edu-Biznews in Abeokuta on Monday, said that the session on the HB No. 45/OG/2020- The Animal Grazing and Cattle Ranch Establishment Law of Ogun State, 2020” as well as “HB No. 44/OG/2020- The Community Development Association Law of Ogun State” would hold at the State Assembly's Oke-mosan Abeokuta complex 


Adeyemo explained that the public hearing is being organized by the house to ensure all-inclusive legislations to promote peaceful co-existence, through lasting solution to herders/ farmers' clashes to aid food production while other bill  aid the operations of the community development in the State,

The Clerk of the Assembly  says the stakeholders’ forum on the two bills is meant to harness input and contributions of all relevant stakeholders in the agriculture, community development and allied sector.

The fora, the release noted was meant to harmonize inputs of stakehokders towards having all-inclusive bills to stem the tides of farmers/herders’ clashes through ranching system and setting legislative modalities for the operations of Community Development Associations in the State.

The public hearing, according to the release, would take place at the State House of Assembly Complex, Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta at 10:00am prompt, while all the stakeholders are enjoined to be seated at 9.30 am.
