Nigeria’s D’Tigers have emerged as the first team, to secure a place at the 2021 Afrobasket Tournament in Tunisia after a hard-earned win 75-70 against South Sudan in Game 4 of the qualifiers in Monastir on Wednesday.
D’Tigers playing with absence of its American Chief Coach,Mike Brown and Nigerian Coach,Alex Nwora, came from behind to overcome the tough opposition of the South Sudan side.
The stand-in head coach, Mfon Udofia ensure that D'Tigers got off to an impressive start before the side fell to the opponents and later regained control in the last quarter of the game
The Nigerian men basketball side were led by the virtuoso performance of point guard Ike Iroegbu who scored 16 points including four from behind the arc to help Nigeria secure a 75-70 win over their opponents,
A comfortable first half that saw the former African Champions take an 8 point lead into the break became frantic after the interval as the South Sudanese led by Nuni Omot, rallied to level matters at 64 all with less than 3 minutes left in the 4th quarter.
Iroegbu, however, came up with a huge three-pointer with the scores level and Obi Emegano also sank another to give Nigeria a lead
D'Tigers ensured that they never relinquished the lead as they maintained their unbeaten run in the qualifiers for the Afrobasket spot with two games to spare, having won four straight games including the three victories in the first round against Mali, Rwanda and South Sudan late last year in Rwanda.
