Executive Chairman of the Ogun State Universal Basic EducationBoard(SUBEB), Chief Dr. Femi Majekodunmi has encouraged pupils in primary schools to always play the game of Chess to develop their minds.
The SUBEB Boss gave the encouragement in Abeokuta, during the recent presentation of chess materials to three public primary schools in the state by the Pro Chess Academy under the auspice of the Nigeria Chess Federation.
Chess according to Majekodunmi, makes one to have purity of mind, fearless and well composed.
He encouraged primary school learners playing chess to share the knowledge with their mates and develop their interest in playing the game.
The Board's Secretary Mr. Wasiu Kuye, appreciated the good gesture of the academy and commended them for introducing the chess game to the public primary schools in the state, saying 'it will assist the learners in developing analytical skills".
kuye congratulated the recipient and charged them to make good use of the opportunity and be diligent.
President of the Nigeria Chess Federation,Mr. Lekan Adeyemi, was elated with the warm reception accorded by SUBEB to the federation,adding that the academy is out to improve mental abilities of the learners such as problem solving, critical thinking, pattern recognition, planning ahead, focus and concentration.
He stressed further that the game would enable the learners to make right decisions that would make them to progress in all their endeavors.
The academy also wants to develop the mind of learners to enable them provide reasonable solutions to all the problems confronting the nation.
Also the Director Academic and School Services, Mrs. Jokotade Agbatogun apprectiated the academy and the Federation for trying to catch the learners while they are still young.
She promised that the board would monitor the effectiveness of the programme and ensure its success in primary schools in the state..
