Non-Academic staff in the public universities are set for a fresh indefinite strike, over what they described as the Federal Government's poor handling of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) as workers' payment platform and sharing formular of the N40billion Earned Allowances among various workers unions in the University system in Nigeria
The workers under the Joint Action Committee, which is made up of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU),
will next Tuesday meet and decide whether to commence the fresh indefinite strike, to compel government to address the issues, including non-payment of arrears of the new minimum wage or not.
Presidents of NASU, Makolo Hassan and SSANU, Mohammed Ibrahim, announced the plan in a statement on Thursday.
JAC expressed concern over its perceived inconsistencies in IPPIS payment and the delay in the renegotiation of the FGN/ ASUU/SSANU 2009 Agreement.
The workers whose three-day warning strike ended last Thursday, are also disturbed over the non-payment of retirement benefits to former members, non-constitution of visitation panels to universities, poor funding of universities, teaching staff usurping the headship of non-teaching units, among others.
The joint unions had directed its branch chairmen of NASU and SSANU to hold a joint congresses on Tuesday, January 19, to decide on possible take off of the Industrial action which will be indefinitely in respect of non-implementation of the issues contained in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed and agreed with the unions by the Federal Government on 20, October 2020.
National Leadership of JAC will on Thursday January 21 collate resolutions of congresses of its respective branches and arrive at the final decision which will be subsequently communicated to branches.
