The Federal Government has insisted that there would not be any form of fresh lockdown of the nation's economy, arising from the disturbing rate of the second wave of coronavirus pandemic in the country.
Edu-Biznews recalled on Monday that the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria and Abuja Chamber of Commerce Industry Mines and Agriculture had warned against any form of lockdown and its serious negative effects on the economy currently in recession.
They were reacting to the recent comment of possible lockdown by the National Co-ordinator of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Dr. Sani Aliyu who claimed that over 6,000 Nigerians had infected in the last one week with the virus as a result of non-compliance with the protocols, to curtail the spread of Coronavirus in the country.
But the Minister of the Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in quick response on Monday, ruled out such lockdown , explaining that the economic and social implications may make it difficult for the Federal Government to impose another lockdown in the country.
Mohammed addressing newsmen in Lagos, was disturbed that Nigerians are not adhering strictly to all COVID-19 protocols laid down by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.
His words,“I don’t think there is anywhere the Federal Government said it will impose another lockdown. However, the Federal Government is not happy that Nigerians are not observing all COVID-19 protocols like washing of hands and wearing of facemasks".
The minister who said that the Federal Government was aware of the economic and social implications of having fresh lockdown, urged Nigerians to follow all COVID-19 protocols.
