Veteran Coach Alabi Adelanwa has asked stakeholders to team up with Engr. Musa Kida led Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), to revive the local men's basketball league which was suspended for three years by the court over the legal tussle between the federation and league organizers on who has the right to control the league .
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had last Tuesday, January 26 dismissed the suit jointly filed by the management of the Kwese Men's Premier Basketball League and that of Gombe Bulls and Kwara Falcons of Ilorin who claimed to be winners of the league in 2017season organised by the Tijani Umar faction of NBBF not recognize by the FIBA-Africa and Federal Government.
The clubs accused Kida led NBBF of denying them tickets to represent the country at the FIBA-Africa Clubs Championship.
Adelanwa, a former coach of National Team reacting to the dismissal of the suit for lack of merit, in a chat with Edu-Biznews over the weekend in Abeokuta, said that time had come for people of like-minds to sit down and restart the domestic league after three years of inactivity which has seriously affected the local players..
"I have absolute confident in the current leadership of NBBF to run a well Organized local league that will produce quality clubs to represent Nigeria at FIBA-Africa Clubs Championship", he expressed with confidence
The Kida led board of NBBF according to him, understand the game of basketball and has what it takes to package the league and attract corporate sponsors because the coaches and players are ready for the league.
Adelanwa who discovered the the legendary, Akeem Olajuwon and likes of other NBA and European Clubs stars, lauded the Kida for his love for the game which has sustain Nigeria's dominance in both male and female in Africa.
"D'Tigers and D'Tigeress are now far ahead of other African countries because of quality of players from NBA in the United States and top European Leagues, any coach handling the national teams must be technically and tactically sound, because of the abundant of talented and experienced players we have", he stated.
The over 80 year old tactician however asked government to provide first-class facilities including a befitting indoor sports hall to encourage local camping of the national teams as well as boost the moral of home based players to train with their foreign counter-part for the development of basketball in Nigeria
