Ogun 2021 Budget: Gov.Abiodun Restores Bursary To Ogun Tertiary Students, Allocates N58bn To Education Sector






Governor Dapo Abiodun has restored the payment of bursary last paid by the Gbenga Daniel administration in 2011, to the Ogun State indigenes in tertiary Institutions across Nigeria.

The bursary was suspended for the eight years of the immediate past Ibikunle Amosun administration.

But the governor announced the restoration of the bursary during his presentation of the state's 2021 budget estimate of N339billion christened "Budget of Recovery and Sustainability"  to the State House of Assembly on Wednesday in Oke-mosan,Abeokuta.

Abiodun who also promised to give priority to  teachers’ welfare in the state, directed the State Commissioner for Education Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu to work out modalities for the immediate payment of the bursary .

'"Payment of bursary to all Ogun State indigenes in tertiary institutions across the country that has been suspended for eight years and has been restored by this administration. I have directed the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology to work out the modalities for its immediate implementation", he said.

The governor described the state as Education capital of the nation, hence a lion share of N58billion was allocated to the sector, representing 17 per cent of the N339billion budget size of the state for the 2021 fiscal year.

His words"As you all know, Ogun State is the Education capital of the nation. Our administration has continued to deepen this legacy with multifaceted initiatives that strengthen leadership, enhance infrastructure, motivate the personnel and generally improve the teaching and learning environment for teachers and students".

The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, while fielding questions from newsmen in his office submitted that giving the education sector utmost attention was another giant stride of the present administration geared towards securing the life of the future generation.
