Proprietor of top Nigeria National League side,Remo Stars Football Club of Ikenne and business mongul ,Hon. Kunle Soname has tasked Ogun State Government to use the powerful tool of sports to engage talented youths as part of measures to curb social vices in the state and Nigeria.
Sports according to him, has potential to make the state great again, if the abdundant talents discovered at the grassroots are properly harnessed and nurtured to stardom to represent the state and country at major sporting events.
The Sport philanthropist gave the charge while hosting the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde and members of Technical Committee on Resuscitation and Repositioning of Sports who visited him at his country home in Ikenne.
The high powered delegation is seeking for Soname's support, to ensure successful outing at the forthcoming National Sport Festival tagged; ‘Edo2020’ .
He explained that sport can be a major tool in assisting government to engage youths, as a way of preventing them from involving in any untoward behavior that could impact negatively on the society.
The philanthropist who promised to look into areas that he could invest in sports, admonished them to look into other sporting activities apart from football, as it is cheaper and more rewarding.
The State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde while responding, explained that the Committee was set up to stimulate the Sports sector and also engage youths in sporting activities.
He appreciated Soname for his numerous contributions to the development of sports over the years, saying the State is blessed to have him.
Members of the entourage include; the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Engr. Olayiwola Abiodun, Acting Director of Sports, Ogun State Sport Council, Mrs. Iyabode Rotimi, the State Football Association Chairman and Nigeria Football Federation board member, Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi, Gateway United Football Club General Manager, Mr. Niyi Soleye among others.
