Head of the Ogun State Civil Service, Alhaja Selimot Olapeju Otun has asked principals to justify government's huge investment in training and re-training by showing more commitment and dedication to duty at their various secondary schools.
Otun made the call while declaring open, a Three-day training retreat with the theme: "Effective Leadership and Management: Driving Force for Sustainability of Schools" organized by the state branch of All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), at Adesba Hotel, Panseke, Abeokuta.
She stressed that only commitment and dedication of the principals would sustain the high standard of secondary education in the state .
The Head of Service urged them to keep showing appreciation by complementing government's efforts in promoting quality education in the State by working as team and not in isolation.
" You must all show appreciation by complementing government's efforts in promoting quality education in our dear State and to achieve this, you must ensure that you work in unity and not in isolation; but rather in coalition for rapid progress that will ensure individual prosperity of all the people of our dear State", Alhaja Otun said.
President of ANCOPSS, Ogun State Branch, Dr. (Mrs.) Ayodele Womiloju explained that the essence of the training was to ensure that all the Principals in the 518 public secondary schools in the State are fully equipped with the required global standard skills.
She urged the selected participants to maximise the gains of the retreat and also ensure effective replication of the training at all zonal levels of ANCOPSS as it is a train the trainers' retreat.
Permanent Secretary of the State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mr. Johnson Odeyemi, his counterpart from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye, as well as the Principal General, Egba Division, Alhaja Sekinat Ogunwolu and the Secretary, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mr. Olalekan Kuye lauded ANCOPSS for organizing the training at a time the country is adapting to the challenges posed by the COVID19 pandemic.
They urged the principals to continue to put their wealth of experience and expertise to bare in order to be able to execute government's policies and programmes effectively and efficiently so as to have a functional educational system in the State.
Highlight of the opening ceremony was the decoration of the Head of Service, Alhaja Selimot Olapeju Otun, the Special Adviser on Primary and Secondary Education, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo, Permanent Secretaries from TESCOM, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Bureau of Service Matters, Mr. Johnson Odeyemi, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye and Mr. Dahunsi Ogunleye as ANCOPSS Ambassadors.
Also four newly sworn in Principal-Generals were amongst others decorated as ANCOPSS Ambassadors in the State.
