Organization for Peace and Harmony (OHP) has praised the two major political parties, the All Progressives Congress APC and Peoples Democratic Party PDP for their choice of two Muslim women as Deputy Governorship Candidates, ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State
It will be recalled that the organization had earlier expressed concern over what it described as inequality in governance, which sparked wide public debate on fairness, inclusion, and balanced representation in leadership arrangements across religious and socio-political divides in the state
President-General of OHP, Ustaadh Tajudeen Jimoh Alao, in a statement by its Director of Media, Ambassador Olaleye Rasheed Damilare, described the two individuals as widely respected for their scholarship, experience, and service.
"The emergence of Alhaja (Dr.) Lateefat Oyeyemi Sowunmi Kolapo, PhD, the Iya Sunnah of Egbaland and the first Ameerah General of Ogun State, as a reported choice within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) structure, alongside Mrs. Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Balogun (KAAB) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has stirred conversations across the state. These are individuals widely respected for their scholarship, experience, and service", the organization stated
The organization monitoring unfolding events in the two political parties, said the choices made reflected political inclusion, eulogizing the qualities of the two Deputy Governorship Candidates
"In a democratic setting such as ours, these developments reflect the evolving nature of political inclusion. Both candidates, by public record, are accomplished Muslims with commendable exposure and capacity to contribute meaningfully to governance in Ogun State."
OHP emphasized the need for these two political parties to sustain this balance beyond the 2027 general election and governance , calling on other political parties to emulate such balance arrangements to ensure peace and harmony in the state
"However, while OHP acknowledges these political realities, we emphasize a broader concern that goes beyond individual candidacies".
"The central question remains one of equity, balance, and long-term political inclusion. It is our firm position that sustainable peace and unity in Ogun State’s political structure must be anchored on fairness to all segments of society"
"As the conversation continues to unfold, we call on all political actors, stakeholders, and parties to ensure that decisions at every level reflect justice, inclusivity, and the genuine aspirations of the people".
"We also encourage political parties that have not yet finalized their zoning or selection processes to step forward with clarity, transparency, and balanced representation", it stated
OHP urged public to remain vigilant by engaging in a peaceful discussion that would shape the future of democracy.in the country as more revelations unfold in the political atmosphere of the country
"The unfolding political atmosphere suggests that more revelations may still emerge as alignments take shape. The public is therefore urged to remain vigilant, engaged, and peacefully vocal in shaping the future of our democracy", the organization urged
