Ogun State Government has described cultural festivals such as the Ojude Oba as an avenue that provides pathway for indigenes to reconnect with ancestral roots, invest in their homeland and transmit their identity to future generation
The State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Sesan Fagbayi stated this in Ijebu-Ode on Friday, while speaking with journalists at the 2026 Ojude Oba Festival which has its theme “Celebrating the Legacy of Oba Sikiru Adetona”
According to the Commissioner, the festival has encouraged homecoming of citizens in diaspora, creating economic growth, tourism development, and cultural diplomacy.
“The globally celebrated festival remained a rallying point for all sons and daughters of Ijebuland to bond, strengthen communal identities and foster connections among people, home and in the diaspora"
“ Ojude Oba is one of the best festivals celebrated not just in Nigeria but across the globe. It attracts both indigenes and international tourists , all hotels were booked , corporate businesses and local traders can testify to improved patronage“ , Fagbayi submitted.
He explained that the State government intended to leverage the festival beyond cultural celebration, by positioning it as a catalyst for economic development and international tourism.
The Commissioner assured that the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration would continue to provide strong support for the annual event, saying this years festival was more vibrant, inclusive and inspiring.
He appreciated the organizers for a more improved festival and their dedication to sustaining one of Africa’s most colourful cultural festivals , adding that inclusion of the ministry in the planning process has deepened government partnership, as well as ensured a successful festival.
Fagbayi added that the Ojude Oba festival and other renowned cultural festivals had collectively enrich the State’s cultural calendar and reinforced its identity as Nigeria’s leading destination for heritage tourism.
A tourist from United States of America, Mr. Julius Adam lauded the orgernisers, expressing delight as an observer at the festival which he purposely travelled to Nigeria to watch, haven seen a lot of social media reporting of the events yearly.
He submitted that the festival has a rich colorful display of fashion, horse riding, promising to visit tourists sites across the state before his departure.
