A total of seven thousand, six hundred and fifteen (7,615) have been matriculated by the School of Postgraduate Studies, University of Lagos (UNILAG), into various programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The colourful ceremony was held early this week at the Nurudeen Alao Auditorium of the Distance Learning Institute (DLI), UNILAG.
Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Folasade Ogunsola in an official online journal, congratulated the students, describing the University of Lagos as a platform for dream actualisation.
She noted that postgraduate education at UNILAG goes beyond the acquisition of certificates to the development of skills and knowledge required to solve problems, create value, and drive national and global development.
Professor Ogunsola emphasised that postgraduate education is a rigorous intellectual journey that demands integrity, curiosity, and commitment to research, adding that modern civilisation is built on research and scholarly inquiry. According to her, universities remain solution centres for global challenges, with postgraduate scholarship playing a central role in national and global transformation.
She further stated that “the UNILAG experience is transformational, combining academic learning with experiential opportunities that prepare students for leadership and societal impact”.
She encouraged the matriculants to embrace the demands of postgraduate training, stressing that growth is forged through both intellectual and personal challenges.
In his remarks, the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Abraham Osinubi, described postgraduate education as a pathway to developing impactful future leaders.
He likened the postgraduate journey to navigating a maze, noting that students require mentorship, resilience, and discipline to succeed.
He added that “postgraduate education marks the beginning of true scholarship and is essential for producing transformative minds capable of driving socio-economic development and nation-building”.
Also speaking at the event, the Sub-Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, Dr. Aliu Soyingbe pointed out the University’s policies on postgraduate registration, studentship, and academic regulations, urging them to adhere strictly to the institution’s rules and standards.
Other members of the University Management were present at the ceremony, which formally ushered in six hundred and eighty four (684) Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) students; six thousand, eight hundred and twenty four (6,824) Master’s students, and one hundred and seven (107) doctoral (PhD) students.
