A Researcher at the University of Lagos, Professor Peter Elias, has secured two significant grant awards to advance research and innovation in sustainable development in housing and urban areas in Africa
Prof. Elias is the Co-Director of the Centre for Housing and Sustainable Development (CHSD) at the university
The two research grants according to a statement by the university's management , are funded by Mastercard Foundation and University of Cambridge Climate Resilience and Sustainability Research Fund (CReSus RF),
Details of the one of the research projects which has its title : "Applying Transdisciplinary and Youth-Driven Citizen Science for a Healthy Climate-Resilient, Lagos" is being done jointly between University of Cambridge in collaboration with University of Lagos through Centre for Housing and Sustainable Development (CHSD) within the less than two years period commencing from Monday, September 1, 2025 to end on Friday, January 1, 2027
The second research project titled: Anticipate, Transform: Upskilling Researchers to Co-create Policy-Relevant Research for Healthy Sustainable Urban Futures will also be done jointly between the two centres at both universities in the United Kingdom and Nigeria between one year period Monday, December 1, 2025 to Tuesday, December 1, 2026
The two awards mark a major milestone in the ongoing efforts by CHSD, UNILAG to address critical housing and sustainability challenges across Africa.
Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola on behalf of UNILAG Senate, staff and students congratulated Prof. Peter Elias on this achievement.
