Opay Digital Services Ltd Earmarks ₦60m For Sponsorship Of 20 Students, Signs MoU With LASU-SDG







A big player in Nigeria's online banking operations , Opay Digital Services Limited has announced ₦60 million scholarship programme for twenty (20) students of Lagos State University (LASU), under the auspices of LASU-SDG in collaboration with the institution's  Directorate of Advancement (LASUDA).

The official signing ceremony was  held recently at the  Senate Chamber of the university on its main campus in  Ojo
‎The 10-year sponsorship, sealed with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), underscores Opay’s dedication to education, innovation and youth development in Nigeria.

‎In his opening remarks, the Director, LASU-SDG, Professor Tayo AJAYI, highlighted the role of the University’s Centre for the Actualisation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (LASU-SDG) in facilitating the partnership.
‎Similarly,  Vice-Chancellor of LASU,
Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello , in her welcome address, appreciated the Opay team for bringing such an opportunity to LASU. 

She further provided an overview of the scholarship initiative, emphasising its significance in supporting twenty (20) deserving students. 


The Vice-Chancellor described the programme as a gesture of goodwill and corporate social responsibility by Opay Digital Services Limited, aimed at fostering academic excellence and alleviating the financial challenges faced by students.
‎In her response, the Chief Executive Officer of Opay Digital Services Limited, Elizabeth Wang, expressed her delight at partnering with Lagos State University on this laudable initiative.




She shared the company’s motivation behind the scholarship scheme, which began in 2018, reaffirming Opay’s unwavering commitment to supporting education and youth empowerment.
‎Wang further explained that the initiative seeks to ease financial burdens and inspire students towards academic excellence. 

She outlined Opay’s mission to make financial services more inclusive through technology and its vision to become a respected and widely recognised brand by offering stable, accessible, and affordable financial solutions. 


She reiterated the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility, particularly in education, noting that students represent the future of society.
‎Reinforcing this commitment, Wang announced that Opay would sponsor twenty (20) students annually for the next ten (10) years, helping them to pursue their academic and professional aspirations. She also revealed that the company, which currently employs over 5,000 staff, plans to provide internship and employment opportunities for LASU students as part of the collaboration.
‎The Director of the Legal Affairs Division, LASU, Mrs O. O. BOYEJO, presented a summary of the Memorandum of Understanding between Lagos State University and Opay Digital Services Limited. 

She outlined the purpose, scope, and selection criteria for student beneficiaries, detailing provisions on confidentiality, data protection, and mutual obligations that establish the decade-long partnership.
‎The agreement was formally signed by Vice-Chancellor Professor, Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello and Elizabeth WANG, CEO of Opay Digital Services Limited and Registrar of the university, Mr Emmanuel A. FANU

The ceremony was witnessed by other management members including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor,  (Academics), Professor Oseni Taiwo AFISI, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Oluwatoyin ENIKUOMEHIN, Director, LASU-SDG, Prof. Tayo AJAYI, Director, LASUDA, Prof. Rafiu O. OKUNEYE, and the Acting Dean, Students' Affairs, Dr Abiodun FATAI-ABATAN, marking the formalisation of a partnership dedicated to supporting students through scholarships and educational opportunities. 

This collaboration reinforces both institutions shared commitment to societal advancement and youth development.
‎The signing ceremony was equally attended by Assistant Directors, Deputy Directors, officials from the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, the LASU-SDG Office, LASUDA Office, and the Legal Unit.


The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the University Registrar, Mr Emmanuel A. FANU.
