MSSN Demands For Fairness In Appointment Of Public Office Holders In Ogun

Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) has expressed concern over what it described as lopsidedness and unfair treatment by the current leadership in Ogun State to its vast Muslim community in terms of appointment of public office holders

The Ogun Area Unit of MSSN raised the concern in a communique issued at the end of its 2025 State Islamic Vacation Course held at SS International School, Idiroko in Ipokia Local Government Area of the State on the 30th July, equivalent to the 12th Safar, 1447 A.H.

President of Ogun Area Unit of the society, Abdulfatah Akanni  Adigun and General Secretary, Umar Salahudeen in the communique, accused the present administration of giving 75.2 percent of political appointees to those who are of Christian faith while the remaining 24.8 percent left to be shared as crumbles among adherents of other religions 

"A situation where a whopping 75.2% of political appointees emerged from the Christian faith, while a laughable 24.8% became crumbles to be shared chaotically among adherents of other religions is not only petty, but also leaves much to be desired of an adminisration with acclaimed fairness sensibilities!"

The society there rejected what it described as second class indigene status accorded to the Muslim population in the state by the virtue of number of appointments given to Muslims in the present administration in the state and called for fairness in the choice of appointees into public offices 

"As Muslim students, we reject the second class indigene status which the government, has, by its unfair appointment, conferred on the Muslim population. We therefore call on the state government to reverse this ugly trend that depicts Ogun as a one-faith State", the communique stated 

The Muslim community according to the society is never in short supply of qualified individuals in all aspects of human endeavours and deserves a better treatment in terms of appointment of public office holders 

"We call on the leadership of the Ogun State Muslim Council as the voice of the Muslims to rise up to the occasion by rejecting the repulsive appointment ìn its entirety, while calling equity, fairness and sincerity in overall government policies. Professional groups, Islamic Leaders and scholars, artisans and others should come together demand fairness, justice and balance as critical stakeholders in the Ogun project", the MSSN demanded 

The society in the communique, also commiserated with the  members of Ogun State Muslim Council and on the entire Muslim community on the demise of its President-General and Awujale of Ijebu land, Oba Sikiru Adetona 

"We eulogize the righteous lessons which his life and death teach the Muslim community. As a Muslim King, the late first class monarch demonstrated uncommon tradition in the Obaship order in Yoruba land which had been long skewed in idolatry"

The MSSN however commended the Prince Dapo Abiodun's administration for institutionalizing an inclusive law that promotes equality in burial rites among all contending interests in the Obaship order 

"We commend the state government, under the leadership of his Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun for institutionalizing an inclusive law that promotes equality in burial rites among all contending interests in the obaship order. This is a model and shinning precedent worthy of emulation across Yoruba land," the society lauded
