Olowu, Sarafa Tunji-Ishola, Others Hail Turbaning Of Prof.Moruf Adelekan As Mogaji Adinni Of Owu-Kingdom



The Olowu of Owu-Kingdom, Oba (Prof.) Saka Adelola Matemilola, Baba Adinni Of Yoruba land Edo and Delta States, Alhaji (Chief) Sarafa Tunji-Ishola, Olu of Eleyele, Abeokuta and Sultan of Owu-Kingdom, Oba(Dr) Moshood Ola Yusuf and Chief Imam of Owu, Sheikh Sulaiman Akorede Kehinde have expressed excitement over the choice of Prof.Moruf Lanrewaju Adelekan as Mogaji Adinni Of Owu-Kingdom, describing him as a Muslim who is passionate about propagation of Islam and committed to the growth of the entire kingdom

They spoke in their separate remarks during the turbaning and conferment of Prof. Adelekan as Mogaji Adinni of Owu-Kingdom held inside Owu Central Mosque in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital over the weekend 

The Olowu acknowledged the key role played by Prof. Adelekan in resolving issues and unifying Owus in diaspora, particularly in the United Kingdom for the Odun-Omo Olowu celebration and progress of the Owu as a community 




The Mogaji Adinni according to him, has been championing the development of Owu-Kingdom, describing Prof.Adelekan as a shining light particularly for the Muslim community within the Kingdom since he returned to the country from the United Kingdom where he worked as Consultant Psychiatrist for almost 21 years with National Health Service after serving as Technical Adviser on Drugs and HIV , United Nations office on Drugs and Crime, Vienna, Austria between 2001 and 2003 during which he traveled to over 35 countries developing and supervising projects across the world 

Similarly Chairman of the event, Alhaji Sarafa Tunji-Ishola, a former Nigerian High Commissioner to United Kingdom recalled his age-long relationship with Agbogunleri family, the extended home of Prof.Adelekan , expressing confidence in his ability in carrying out the new religious responsibility as Mogaji Adinni of Owu-Kingdom considering the rich background in Islam 




Also speaking, the Chairman, Supreme Council of Owu Muslim Community, Oba Moshood Ola Yusuf who noted the outstanding success story of Prof. Adelekan as Consultant to the United Nations, charged him to be more alive to his new religious roles as Mogaji Adinni of Owu-Kingdom 




The monarch lauded the leadership role of Olowu in the choice of Prof. Adelekan as the Co-Chair of the 2025 Odun Omo-Olowu Festival even before his  conferment as Mogaji Adinni of Owu-Kingdom, describing it as clear demonstration of  act of selfless service to the people 

Chief Imam of Owu-Kingdom, Sheikh Sulaiman Akorede Kehinde and Mufasir, Sarafadeen Daud Fadipe in their separate exhortation urged him to see his religious responsibility as Mogaji Adinni of Owu-Kingdom as a call to serve the Muslim community who needs his physical presence for every crucial decision on how to move Islam forward 








The Clerics described Mogaji Adinni as one of the key Chieftancy titles in Owu Muslim Community, stressing the need for him to be ready to take up the new challenge of promoting the interest of Islam using his time, wealth of knowledge, wisdom and resources 

Accepting his religious role as Mogaji Adinni of Owu-Kingdom, Prof. Adelekan accompanied by wife and family members who had earlier been conferred as Baba Adinni of Agbogunleri Mosque in his immediate community at the Oke Ago-Owu, pledged to commit the rest of his life serving Allah with his time, wealth of experience and resources to uplift Islam to a greater height 








Prof.Adelekan who is serving as a Visiting Consultant to Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta and Neuropsychiatric Aro during his earlier turbaning as Baba Adinni at the Agbogunleri Mosque, was full of appreciation to spiritual fathers and family members and entire Muslim Ummah of the community, pledging his readiness to serve Allah 














The new Mogaji Adinni of Owu-Kingdom and Baba Adinni of Agbogunleri Mosque, speaking with newsmen, stressed the need for every human to be ready to serve Allah in every situation wholeheartedly 


The two events held at the Owu Central Mosque and Agbogunleri Mosque both in Abeokuta, attracted top Islamic clerics and dignitaries including General Secretary of the Ogun State Muslim Council, Asiwaju Kamaldeen Akintunde Esq amongst others
