Ogun Assembly Worries Over Environmental Degradation, Summones Officials Of Dangote Cement

Ogun State House of Assembly has expressed concern over  the level of environmental degradation being caused by the activities of Dangote Cement Ibese, describing it as inimical to the overall welfare and well-being of the people of the host communities and the State.

Speaker of the house, Right Honourable Oludaisi Elemide therefore summoned the management of the Cement Plant, Ibese to appear before the State lawmakers on next week Wednesday, 17th July, 2024 by 1.00pm prompt.at the State House of Assembly in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta 

The Speaker declared that the house could not allow such degradation of environment to continue.

Earlier in their presentations, Honourables Adegoke Adeyanju, Bisi Oyedele, Samusideen Lawal, Yusuf Amosun, Oluseun Adesanya and Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye who decried the activities of  Dangote Cement, said that the company dealing majorly in production and haulage of cement ought to have a trailer park, as part of its operating approval.

They unanimously called for the immediate compliance with physical planning law in the operation of the cement company, saying that their activities affected over 50 communities which had been thrown into darkness in the last two years.

According to the lawmakers, indiscriminate parking by trailer drivers of the company and their carefree attitude had continually led to avoidable loss of lives and properties.

In another development, a- day capacity building has been organized for 

members of the State House of Assembly on their critical role in nation building

Speaker Elemide during the training session, explained the essence of understanding "matter of urgent public importance and personal explaination", which according to him, is to draw the attention of government to critical issues affecting constituents and the State.

In their various papers at the capacity  building programme, a former Clerk of the Assembly, Mr. Muyiwa Adenopo and Evang. Morakinyo Akinleye, dwelled extensively on the responsibilities of the legislative arm in ensuring quality representation and ensure robust legislative- executive relationship as a panacea for good governance.
