Salah:Ogun Govt Asks Residents To Celebrate In Cleaner, Safer Environment

Ogun State Government has asked residents and visitors to the state to celebrate this year's Eid-el-Kabir, in a cleaner, healthier and safer environment.

The State Commissioner for Environment, Mr Ola Oresanya in a statement y said the charge became necessary in the wake of the outbreak of Cholera in surrounding states which calls for personal and collective hygiene as well as proper waste disposal during the celebration.

He therefore called on them especially Muslims not to litter the environment with waste especially from animal droppings, urging them to bag them and hand them to government approved waste collectors in their area or drop them in government-provided waste bins nearest to them for proper disposal by officials of the state Waste Management Authority, OGWAMA.

"In addition, left-over food should equally be bagged and not be exposed to flies, rodents and vectors who will inturn infect humans with communicable diseases which we are not praying for after the celebration in Ogun state. So we must all be careful as we mark this year's Sallah with our celebration "

On government side, Oresanya assured that officials of the state Waste Management Authority OGWAMA would provide twenty -four hours service throughout the state as they have deployed all their vehicles and equipments for proper waste management during the celebration

Environmental Health Officers from the Ministry of Environment according to him, will also be on duty to provide counseling for a cleaner, healthier and safer Sallah celebration.

He also used the opportunity to urge motorists not to over speed as sweepers and other environmental workers will be on duty to keep the environment neat and tidy.

While thanking residents of the state for the gains recorded in the environment sector in the last five years of Prince Dapo Abiodun administration, Oresanya wishes everyone especially Muslims that may this Sallah celebration  bring bountiful joy, peace and prosperity to them and their loved ones.
