Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello Bello has called for the support of Alumni Association of the institution, stakeholders and other members of the public to join her administration in its major target of making the University the best in West Africa.
The Vice- Chancellor made the call on Monday during Coconut Breaking and Cultural Festival, a pre-event held at the Badagry entrance gate on the Ojo main campus of the university, as part of activities for the ongoing 27th Convocation Ceremony
"As an association, you are supposed to participate actively in the institution's development, such that will bring monumental growth to your alma mater.", she tasked the alumni members
She added that the University was willing to partner with the Alumni and other stakeholders to fast track the realisation of the vision of LASU becoming the best University in West Africa within the next two years, adding that it is attainable because its administration is on the right path.
The university according to her ,had inaugurated many landmark projects since becoming its Vice-Chancellor
She implored the alumni to attract further development to the university through goodwill by facilitating the construction of Independent Power Plant, Large Lecture Halls, Ultra Modern Computer Based Test Centres, as well as provision of security gadgets and more.
This she noted would facilitate the attainment of the strategic goals of the university. The Vice Chancellor, in her closing remarks, applauded the alumni for sustaining the event and wished it a successful 27th Convocation Ceremony.
In his remarks, the President, LASU Alumni, Major General Cecil Esekhaigbe (rtd), represented by Prof. Olugbenga Oladimeji averred the event symbolises the rich culture of the state and the location of the university.
"Together, let us break open new possibilities, just as we break this coconut at this ceremony today. We wish you the graduating set a successful celebration and trusting God for your accomplishments in the years to come, so, you can be able to give back to your Alma Mater," he stated.
The highlight of the event was the breaking of coconut and offering of prayers for the University, Lagos State, and the Country at large.
The Vice Chancellor, other Principal Officers of the university, the Alumni, Deans of Faculties and Schools, Directors of Centres, Chairman and Members of Ceremonies Committee, IBILE Group, and the Students' Union, all took turns, one after the other, to break coconuts and offered prayers.
Other side attraction include the cutting of the cake by the Vice Chancellor, supported by the principal officers and others.
The Deputy Registrar, LASU Alumni, Mr Adeyombo Alagbe gave the vote of thanks while the Deputy Registrar, Vice Chancellor's Office, Dr Lateef Shekoni ended the rich event with the closing prayer.
